Ballet From 5 Years
Ballet is considered to be the perfect foundation for all other dance styles.
The teaching team brings extensive knowledge of the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus including unique experience of the recently developed material. They are adept at sharing this knowledge whether on a one on one basis or within groups in a class setting. All teachers are skilled in anatomy and how this pertains to the training of young bodies. They pass this knowledge on to students in age appropriate ways, incorporating fun and imagination along with secure technique.
Examinations, Class Awards and Solo Performance Awards are offered at all levels but are by no means compulsory.
Jazz From 5 Years
Jazz dance has seen many changes as popular music and the development of stage musicals have helped influence the way Jazz dance has been presented. With the development of Broadway and its highly successful musical stage shows, Jazz has evolved into a variety of styles.
At Kapiti Dance Centre all levels of Jazz from 5 years through to teenage levels are offered, based on the NZAMD syllabus. Jazz is a fun style which teaches structured dance skills to once a week students and also provides great versatility and flexibility for those who take ballet classes.
Kapiti Dance Centre students adore their jazz classes and can often be seen playing with their steps out of class time.
Mini Movers 3-4 year
Pre-schoolers love to dance and have fun with it. This class is the ideal way for your child to experience some of the wonder and inspiration of dance music. Each week offers a new adventure to an imaginary place.
Level 1 is a very gentle introduction to movement, using the imagination and creative themes.
Level 2 will develop the co-ordination and have some more challenging ideas but still with lots of imagination and freedom.
Even at this young level Kapiti Dance Centre students are supported and encouraged to participate in the annual school performance, if they feel confident to do so.
Stretch & Strength from 10 years
This class has definite benefits for anyone studying Ballet or Jazz and is an essential must have for those who want to take their dancing seriously. It is extremely good for general fitness and stamina.
Kapiti Dance Centre now also offers Tap classes for beginner and junior levels.
